The Hindu calendar is a calendar that has been in use in India since about 1000 BCE and is still used to determine the dates of the Hindu lunar calendar. It is also based on the moon's movement. The Hindu calendar, also known as Panchanga, is an antiquated method of keeping track of time that is used, among other things, to establish the dates of Hindu holidays.
A lunisolar calendar is known as the Hindu calendar. The year is 354 days long, and the 12 months move by the moon. By adding one extra lunar month of 29 days every third year, 33 days (11 extra days * 3) are added. A few things are changed here and there during the final four days.

According to Hindu mythology, the Hindu Calendar is crucial to Hindu ceremonies, festivals, and religious observances. It acts as a spiritual road map, coordinating followers' lives with the celestial motions of the universe. Numerous Hindu rites and festivals celebrate significant occurrences in the life of gods and the universe by being closely tied to particular dates on the calendar. For instance, the festival of lights known as Diwali, which marks the victory of light over darkness and is a central subject in Hindu mythology, is observed on the new moon day of the Hindu month of Kartik.
The Hindu calendar serves as a historical record in Vedic history, giving information about the earlier civilizations of the Indian subcontinent. Lunar months and solar years are mentioned in the Vedic writings, especially the Rigveda, illustrating the early grasp of timekeeping in the Vedic culture. The calendar was essential for agricultural and seasonal activities as well, assisting farmers with crop planting and harvesting. Also, the Vedic calendar continues to have an impact on the collective consciousness of the Vedic age as seen by the division of time into yugas (epochs) in Hindu cosmology, such as the Kali Yuga.
